Pregnant and worried about the Corona virus? Reassuring news…

If you’re pregnant right now you’re probably extra terrified about the Corona virus outbreak – well in a sea of scary news – here is something reassuring:

A report from one of the world’s leading medical journals suggests an unborn baby may not be impacted if you get it….

One of the leading medical journals globally: The Lancet has published a piece suggesting that based on the data we have currently the Corona Virus is not passed to a baby during pregnancy.

Ok here come the caveats as of course Corona Virus is very new…

Now of course this is a very small sample as at this stage we have limited data. It is also data from China where there has been debate about legitimacy of reports around Corona Virus. However the study looked at 9 pregnant women who had confirmed cases. It assessed amniotic fluid, cord blood and breastmilk after the first lactation.

The good news: every single baby born tested negative for any traces of Corona Virus:

All of the patients had a C Section delivery and the good news: all of the samples tested negative for the virus.

Bottom line: of course one of the issues with this new virus is that at this stage we don’t know much about it. This sample is obviously very small too so it is difficult to make conclusions that are 100% accurate. However, this does appear to be reassuring if you’re pregnant and concerned.

What (if anything) can we do to protect ourselves?

What else can you do against Corona Virus? Well aside from practising really good hygiene particularly around hand washing,  it is always smart to look after your immune health. The most basic way to do this is to get lots of rest, sleep and keep stress low – easier said than done of course!

Talk to your doctor about ensuring you have enough Vitamin C (liposomal is great for absorption) as well as Vitamin D (ask to get your levels checked). Click here as a reminder why this is so important to immunity.

Other than that we know that 70% of our immune system lives in the gut and we are all for gut health. Click here for some easy ways to do this and why research suggests focusing on it is particularly good for your baby.
